Showcase Drama Terms and Conditions

  • Terms and Conditions for LAMDA lessons

It is expected that a learner will only study for one examination at a time.  However learners can switch between Performance (acting), Speaking Verse and Prose and Public Speaking after each examination.

    When lessons take place:

Lessons will run in accordance with schools’ term times and there will be a break for October, February and May half terms, Winter (Christmas) Holiday, Spring (Easter) Holiday and an extended break over the summer.  The average number of lessons per term will be ten with the aim of thirty lessons in a yearly period.

During the school holidays it is anticipated that there will be no lessons, however there are occasions, particularly when an examination is near, that extra lessons may be required.  Please discuss your requirements with the Showcase Drama teacher who will where possible arrange extra sessions, but these may be online.

    LAMDA Examinations:

As LAMDA examinations are Ofqual recognised they require a certain number of recommended hours for preparation and students will not be entered into the exam unless the Showcase Drama teacher is confident that they will be at the required standard and will have covered the learning aims and assessment criteria set by the LAMDA syllabus.  From the time of registering for an examination to the exam day is about six weeks so approximately seven to eight weeks in advance you will be advised as to whether the learner will be ready to take the exam.

Once it has been agreed to enter the learner for an examination the parent / adult will be expected to arrange the registration for the LAMDA examination and to complete the paperwork.  LAMDA examinations vary in price and are set by LAMDA themselves.  You will need to pay LAMDA Examination fees directly.  Showcase Drama is not a Private Centre so the examinations will be arranged for a Public Centre usually in London.

Please be aware that there are occasions when LAMDA may have to change the date of the examination.

If a learner has paid for a LAMDA examination and is unable to attend the exam on the day LAMDA will not refund the fee.  A rescheduled examination can be made, but another fee will be charged.

LAMDA will confirm the date and time of the examination approximately two weeks in advance of the examination.  A Learner’s Report Form will be issued and you / the learner will need to take this to the examination and hand this to the assessor.

The Showcase Drama teacher does not attend the examination so if the learner is a minor they will need to be accompanied to the venue.  LAMDA do not allow the accompanying adult into the examination room. The results can take up to six weeks to come back to you.  These will include the Learner’s Report Form, and it is advised to share this with the Showcase Drama teacher.

The Showcase Drama teacher is self-employed and is no way responsible for LAMDA prices, regulations and decisions.

    Practice and Preparation:

An important aspect of LAMDA lessons is that the family must support the learner in the learning and practice in between lessons.  This support and encouragement is vital to the success of the learner.

The Showcase Drama teacher can only take the learner so far in the lessons and then it is up to them.  The learner will be expected to carry out some work at home.  So any homework that is set, for example line learning, research, practising vocal skills and reading is considered to be an essential part of the LAMDA guided learning hours.  Support and encouragement in completing this each week is important for the successful outcome of the examination.

The Showcase Drama teacher is happy to provide feedback on a learner’s progress; however it is recommended that this does not take place straight after a lesson (apart from a brief response) as this may delay the start of the next student’s lesson.  To request feedback please email the Showcase Drama teacher who will aim to respond within two working days.

The LAMDA process is a commitment, and the lessons should not be entered into without giving this some thought.  Missed lessons will interrupt the process and progress.  You will need to ensure that if entering your child for lessons that they must have sufficient time to attend lessons regularly and to be dedicated to the work required.  They will also need to be enthusiastic and want to come to lessons.  A happy learner will produce good results.

Photographs/videos are sometime taken for the purposes of LAMDA marketing or for the promotion of Showcase Drama.  Please inform the Showcase Drama teacher if you DO NOT wish your child to participate.

From time to time a recital will be arranged and tickets will be made available via the Showcase Drama teacher.  A fee will be charged for these, and any excess monies will be put towards offsetting the cost of an examination.

    Online Lessons:

Online lessons will take place via Zoom.

Homework sheets or practice sheets will be emailed to the parent within 24 hours of the online lesson taking place.

    Cancellation of a lesson:

If a learner needs to cancel a lesson for any reason it is required to give the Showcase Drama teacher 48 hours’ notice in advance where that is possible.

Where possible the Showcase Drama teacher will try to arrange another lesson during the same week, which may be online instead of in person.  Where this is not possible 50% of the total lesson fee is payable.  It is the intention of the Showcase Drama teacher to make every effort to reschedule the lesson during the same week so as to avoid loss of learning time for the learner.

Again if the learner needs to reschedule a lesson for an alternative time during the week 48 hours’ notice is required and if a face to face lesson is not possible then this shall be moved online.

Similarly if the Showcase Drama teacher is not available for an unexpected reason then all reasonable effort will be made to contact the learner and to arrange an alternative time.  If there is an extended period of absence by the Showcase Drama teacher for illness then an alternative replacement teacher will be recommended.  Once the original Showcase Drama teacher is well again the lessons will revert to that teacher.  If the replacement teacher does not work out and the learner does not wish to continue then it is suggested that lessons be postponed until such time that the original Showcase Drama teacher is able to reconvene.

    Notice Period:

The notice period for the cessation of lessons is half a term (five weeks) and must be given in writing.  Failure to provide this notice will result in the fees for the following five weeks being payable.
